Help! CanvasWorkspace WEB has closed down – what should I do?
CanvasWorkspace Web closed on 1 October 2026. If you have followed an old bookmark and found that the browser version has disappeared, you have not necessarily lost your designs. Brother has moved the main account and download functions to CanvasWorkspace PC, which now shares account information with Artspira.
There is also a practical problem for some users: an older copy of CanvasWorkspace PC may fail to update or open properly. Let’s deal with that first, then look at where your projects and purchased or activated designs have gone.
CanvasWorkspace PC will not open—or its update failed
Start with Brother’s current installer. At the time of writing, Brother lists CanvasWorkspace PC version 2.7.1 for Windows and Mac. Download it from the official CanvasWorkspace PC download page, choosing the correct installer for Windows, an Apple Silicon Mac or an Intel Mac. Follow Brother’s installation instructions on that page.
If you already have CanvasWorkspace installed, you do not need to get the old program running to use its built-in updater. Brother’s advice for an update failure is to download the current installer directly and install it over the existing version. This is also its suggested fix when an unsuccessful update produces the “Unable to connect to server” (E00003)message. Check that your internet connection works first, then try the direct installer.
Before making bigger changes to your computer, make a copy of any local project files you have saved yourself. I would not start by deleting the old application or its folders when an installation over the existing copy may solve the problem.
Check your operating system, too. Brother currently lists Windows 11 and macOS 15 or 26 as supported for this version. If your computer runs Windows 10 or an older macOS release, that may explain why the latest installation is difficult; Brother does not list those systems as supported. Use Brother’s support service for advice specific to your computer and ScanNCut model.
If the direct installation still fails, note the exact error code and message, your operating system and whether installation or sign-in is failing. Those details will make a support request far more useful than “CanvasWorkspace doesn’t work.”
The new sign-in: keep your existing account connected
When the updated PC application opens, it may ask you to connect your CanvasWorkspace login with an Artspira account. Follow the prompts using the CanvasWorkspace ID associated with your existing projects and activated collections.
Brother says you can continue signing in with that ID and password. If you already use Artspira through Google or Apple, Brother provides a way to link that sign-in to your existing CanvasWorkspace ID, carrying the account information across. Check your email, including the spam folder, if you are waiting for a six-digit verification PIN. Brother’s account-linking instructions show the different routes. support.canvasworkspace.brother.com
If your projects or collections appear to be missing after sign-in, check which account you used before assuming the files have vanished.
Can you still download your saved projects?
Yes. Brother says CanvasWorkspace PC can still download the contents of My Projects, along with Pattern Collectionsand Disney content, from its account settings. You can download these as ZIP files and keep an archive on your computer. Brother’s illustrated download guide shows where to find the controls. designbundles.net
Once you have downloaded a ZIP, keep an untouched copy somewhere safe before extracting and using the files. A second backup is sensible for designs that would be difficult to replace.
What about add-on designs, such as Rotary Auto Blade patterns?
Look under Pattern Collections using the account to which you originally activated the add-on. Brother’s PC download process includes those collections. That is particularly relevant if you activated the designs supplied with a Rotary Auto Blade kit or another pattern card through the former web service.
If a collection does not appear, check the original login ID and keep your activation card or purchase details to hand when contacting Brother. Do not try to redeem an already-used code under a different account: Brother’s Rotary Auto Blade instructions say its activation code is tied to one CanvasWorkspace login ID and machine. Some older Brother instructions still describe the web screens, so use the current PC download guide for the download itself.
Disney files need an extra step. Brother says downloaded Disney FCN files should be extracted from the ZIP, placed on a USB drive and retrieved on the ScanNCut machine. Its PC import instructions apply to FCM files; do not treat an FCN file as an ordinary FCM import.
What happened to Canvas Project designs?
The old Canvas Project collection service has ended. Designs you saved into My Projects can still be downloaded through the PC application. Brother also says that if you need a particular old Canvas Project design, you can find its Project No. on Brother’s Canvas Project page, contact Brother with that number and request the FCM file. Brother lists Artspira as another place to explore designs with some of the older Canvas projects having transferred onto the new platform already.
This is separate from downloading your own My Projects and activated Pattern Collections. Knowing which type of design you are looking for will save a lot of frustration.
What should you do today?
- Install the current CanvasWorkspace PC version directly from Brother if your existing copy will not open or update.
- Sign in and link your original CanvasWorkspace ID to Artspira when prompted.
- Download and back up My Projects, Pattern Collections and Disney content. Check that the ZIP files contain what you expected.
- If a specific old Canvas Project design is missing, use its Project No. to request it from Brother.
- If you remain stuck, contact Brother with the exact error message, computer operating system and account details—without sharing your password.
The web version has gone, but missing the 1 October deadline did not automatically erase everything in your account. Brother’s current PC application and support pages give you ways to recover and continue using much of your work. Take the time to check your account and make your own copies now, while the steps are fresh in your mind.
We’re updating Design for Your ScanNCut to reflect the new CanvasWorkspace and Artspira workflow. Buyers of the paper edition will also receive the updated digital book when it is published. See our previous article on the CanvasWorkspace changeover here.
