Backgrounds don’t need to be complicated to look effective. A few simple techniques can transform even the simplest design.
1. Ink Blending
This is where we use ink to build colour gradually using light pressure with either brushes or sponges. You can see more on ink blending here on the blog. You can use any ink pad in your stash, but some will blend easier than others.
2. Layered Stencilling
We can use multiple stencil layers or ink colours to create a bold, pop of colour to all or part of your card or project. Why not try making your own stencils using basic shapes on your cutting machine.
3. Watercolour Washes
Watercolour can be a really quick way to create backgrounds and papers. Use sprays for a blended, saturated look, or go softer with washes created with larger mop brushes working wet on wet. Keep it loose and imperfect for a natural look.
